Hannah Wien is a Jeff Nominated lighting designer based in Chicago, IL focused on discovering new, old, and exciting ways lights can exist in the context of a space.

I fell in love with collaboration from a young age and that hasn’t ever stopped, it’s just taken different forms. As an artist, I am enamored with working together to create the best of something. A firm believer that many minds working together is always better than one, I want to hear about concepts that would have never come up in my mind, and figure out how to make those concepts come to life.

As a designer I love saturation and angles. I like telling a story through color and from where the light is coming from. When creating a design, my starting point is to imagine the lights in the show are their own character, and therefore also undergo their own “character arc.” How do the lights change from the beginning of a show to the end? Why? How can that influence and interact with the other elements on stage?

The lights tell a story too, and I am very interested in the story being told.
